Who we are

Two operators. Not a fund.

Garnett Enterprises is Brynr Garnett and James Rydjeski. One of us runs operations, one of us runs the numbers, and after a sale closes, we are the people your employees and customers will be dealing with. Here is who you'd be handing the keys to.

Brynr Garnett

Co-founder · Operations and growth

Brynr has spent more than twelve years in sales, operations, and business management. As Regional Vice President at M & C Assemblies, Inc., he ran a large field operation with hundreds of employees and independent contractors, and helped grow revenue from $3 million to more than $70 million in five years.

Along the way he built and kept relationships with Home Depot, Lowe's, and Walmart, and was directly involved in multiple acquisitions and business sales. He is at his best building teams, fixing the operational bottlenecks that keep a good business from becoming a great one, and making sure the people doing the work have what they need.

James Rydjeski, CPA

Co-founder · Finance and controls

James is a practicing CPA with a Master's in Accounting from BYU's Marriott School of Business and experience at Deloitte and SAIC. He has spent his career in financial planning, risk management, and internal controls: the unglamorous work that keeps a company solvent and its owners sleeping at night.

He has advised investment management firms, worked on pricing strategy, and led complex financial analyses. In an acquisition, James leads the financial review himself, structures the deal so the business is never over-leveraged, and after closing, makes sure the reporting is clean enough that problems show up early.

Why we work together

Operations and finance, in the same room

Most small-business acquisitions fail for one of two reasons: the buyer can't run the operation, or the buyer can't read the numbers. We each cover the other's blind spot.

Brynr has scaled a business through the messy middle, where processes break and the founder can no longer be in every meeting. James has seen, from the inside, how companies large and small lose money without noticing. Together, that means a business we buy gets both kinds of attention from the first day: someone on the floor and someone on the books.

We chose to buy one business at a time because that's the only way to do this properly. It is a slower way to build a company. We think it's the right one.

How we run a business

The principles we'd want you to hold us to

Learn before changing

The way things are done usually has a reason. We spend our first months understanding it before we touch it, and when we do make changes, it's with the people who do the work.

Honor the legacy

The name, the reputation, and the relationships are what we're buying. Protecting them is a business decision as much as a personal one.

Keep the balance sheet boring

We don't load a company with debt it has to sweat to service. Conservative financing means the business can weather a bad year without cutting people.

Do what we said

What we tell you on the first call is what you'll find in the letter of intent, the purchase agreement, and the year after closing. If that ever isn't true, you should hear it from us first.

Next step

Want to know if your business is a fit? Ask us.

A twenty-minute call is enough for an honest answer.
